The Medical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for performing routine and specialized laboratory investigations to support accurate diagnosis, treatment, and disease prevention.

The role requires strict adherence to professional standards, quality assurance protocols, and regulatory guidelines as stipulated by the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).

No two days on the job are the same. You will be providing active and necessary treatment and care to allow patients to be discharged as soon as they are healthy and stable. This includes emergency room services, intensive care, urgent care, and more hospital setting.

Job description

The Medical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for performing routine and specialized laboratory investigations to support accurate diagnosis, treatment, and disease prevention. The role requires strict adherence to professional standards, quality assurance protocols, and regulatory guidelines as stipulated by the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory tests in areas such as Hematology, Chemical Pathology, Microbiology, Immunology, and Parasitology.
  • Collect, analyze, and process patient specimens accurately and safely.
  • Ensure proper use, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Adhere to Quality Assurance (QA/QC) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Accurately record, validate, and report test results in a timely manner.
  • Comply with biosafety and infection control protocols.
  • Participate in internal audits, proficiency testing, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in all laboratory practices.
  • Assist in training interns and junior laboratory staff when required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) from an accredited institution.
  • Current MLSCN practicing license (mandatory).
  • Minimum of 1–3 years relevant work experience
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory diagnostic procedures and safety standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication and documentation skills.
